Then came the pushback from the postmasters, who told Pearson and other lawmakers that “standard” mail, the post office’s name for junk mail, has become the lifeblood of the U.S. Postal Service and that jobs depend on it.
this is both a metaphor for why capitalism is broken AND proof that capitalism is breaking…now. clicky.
after buying myself a gocco on ebay in december, it was stolen off my porch. it’s taken until this week for the horror to be sorted out and now, at last, it is here.
i had so much fun making these notecards, i’m already scheming about the next project. clicky.
just because i expected exactly what i got from the state of the union speech last night doesn’t make it any less painful.
my two favorite parts:
One year ago, our enemies were succeeding in their efforts to plunge Iraq into chaos, so we reviewed our strategy and changed course.
We launched a surge of American forces into Iraq.
so, launch of american forces into iraq now = change.
and
“So tonight, with confidence in freedom’s power…”
i like this one because its meaninglessness begs to be continued on in marx brothers format. like this:
“so tonight, with confidence in freedom’s power, and power in freedom’s confidence…”
to keep from a total lapse into nihilism, i bring you this bit of fantastic from “the best little whorehouse in texas.” it’s a great satire on political ca-ca, but it also features charles durning….DANCING. it’s worth watching all the way through because durning makes a ton of great little acting choices.
(if you are one of those “why do 3 minute microwave burritos take so long?” type of people, at least watch from 4:16. that’s when the dancing AND prancing really build up. but believe me, those of us watching all the way through are getting so much more.)
and finally, now that the mood is slightly elevated, try some bona fide analysis. clicky.
taken at one of the ever-expanding malls in lynwood, wa. i had to pick someone up there and i got so dazed that when i saw this sign, i had to rub my eyes to make sure i was reading it correctly.
anybody want to come watch “they live” with me tonight?
i heard about the wonders of the new paperless e-voting systems, and i have to say…so much easier than i had imagined! we truly live in the future. i hope i win the gift card!!
i am a really really picky bag owner. it stems from my compulsive need to carry a lot of things with me all the time, but also to be able to easily find each thing when i need it, and then to also not want too many things with me, while i look real cool and not at all like a camel or pack mule of some kind.
it’s been a long time, but i think the good folks at pear have finally saved me from any further seeking. my new bag is incredibly well-made and has exactly the right amount of storage, with beautiful colors and awesome textures. even the strap is cute AND it doesn’t slip off or make me hunch over. AND it came with a cute little zippy purse too.
you should know that it came with a really pretty vintage pin, but i changed it out for the pins i always wear…cause i loves them.
even though you might be sad cause i scored the teal bag of joy, there are a lot of others to choose from. did i mention they also do skirts and clutches and more? clicky.
