thanks to kristen and schmancy for arranging such a fun, coffee and wool filled sunday afternoon! not all of my photos turned out, but here are some, at least. clicky.
the brown leather belt cuff, top left above, LITERALLY made my heart beat faster. a little poking around in greenbelts’ etsy store proved no different. her work is highly covetable, way affordable, and she lives in my town…which has me wondering how we’ve not met yet!? clicky.
art in unexpected places is my favorite thing ever, and friday night i got to witness something magical. it was SpOtDance, a dance performance that wound its way through the length of a shopping mall outside of seattle, and i loved it. as they explain it:
“SpOtDance is part of The SITE SERIES // Dance on Common Ground, which uses movement to encourage us to see and explore our daily surroundings. This series of site-specific contemporary dance performances, staged in public spaces, explores the interactions and relationships of people both to a space and to each other, and how these affect our sense of who/what “belongs” in each space. Each performance takes this question of “who/what belongs” into account as it surprises the audience with dance in unexpected places and with unexpected interactions. Created by Aiko Kinoshita”
the movement itself was lovely, but watching the dancers move amongst the unsuspecting shoppers was breathtaking. i took a ton of photos. clicky.
sunday snack: roma & sun-dried tomatoes, basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar with fresh mozzarella on top. so yummy!! (i wish we could get real sourdough in seattle, though.)
i got this from allrecipes. you should make some too, and invite me over. clicky.
i just spent about an hour marveling at the work of arthur hash. (marveling sounds better than gawking and drooling, right?)
he plays with shapes & space, polyurethane & metal, and i want to touch all of it.
arthur’s website has a mesmerizing slideshow of goodness, including what i think are computer prototypes of some of his pieces. he’s also got a flickr pool. and, for those of you who have any kind of “job” or “money” go directly to etsy.
one of the only consolations to be found in the declining state of…everything…may be that while the world gets scarier and scarier, the onion gets funnier and funnier.
one of my favorite scenes: over a dozen young and talented marshal artists in a courtyard, showing their skills, high kicking, breaking stuff with their hands and faces, jumping around expertly. their teacher approaches the front of the group, who fall into formation to listen to his wisdom. he looks to them knowingly and says “i would like you to remember that my karate teacher died of a bullet in the head.”
i love this film. and, now that we live in the future, you can read about it, or even watch it on the internets.
