next ihr: sunday, october 7th.

flickr find: feed the pig

September 18th, 2007 by moxie

this is a photo of my friend lisa’s mom, who grew up on a farm in the early 40s.

i have gone back to look at this pretty much once a day since she first posted it. there’s something so touching and real about it…in some weird way it feels timeless, too.

anyway, i had to show you. it’s too good. clicky

etsy find: seamonster collar by lumpkin

September 15th, 2007 by moxie

il_430xn11095423.jpg

if you wore this, i would point and yell “hey look out! it looks like a monster is scarfing your body! get it? SCARFING?! hey, wait…where are you going?”

but i’d only do that because it’s so damn cool. if i wore it, i would always yell “oh heck, it’s up to my…” and then make disturbing gacking noises. in public. because i’d have to. clicky.

community service: peel this car

September 13th, 2007 by moxie

img_1961.jpg

this is a 1988 dodge colt and i am the original owner. this car is named “marv” and is currently half covered in peeling, fraying, disintegrating duct tape.

last summer i convinced paul, the primary driver and my husband, that it’d be a really cool idea to cover this car in duct tape. and it was cool. last summer, it was an awesome duct tape art car. today, it is just sad. and so is paul. but paul is not as sad as the car. look at it.

no really, here:

img_1962.jpg

see? doesn’t it make you feel sad? doesn’t it!?

you: “oh my, yes. i have looked at this car and felt the sadness.”

me: “i know, i know. it’s going to be ok because, you can help.”

you: “me? but, i’m just one person! i can’t make a difference!”

me: “come on now, muffin. don’t be like that. let me show you how….”

if every person in seattle (and bellevue) who walks by this car takes 15 seconds to peel off a piece of failed duct tape, we could have him naked in a matter of days. once he’s naked, he’s a canvas again and we have plans. fancy plans, with pants to match.

so, look into your heart. can’t you spare 15 seconds to peel this car? for the price of . . . nothing, you can give new life to a very, very, very, very crappy car. how can you look into those headlights and refuse to help? you can’t. you just can’t. i know you. you’re a good person. now, prove it: peel this car.

please?

massive etsy roundup: food pyramid

August 29th, 2007 by moxie

here! i made you a sampling of etsy goodies, catagorized by the food pyramid.

see, at the bottom you got your wheat, grains, pasta, bread. above that are veggies on the left, fruit on the right. over the fruit is protein which is next to dairy, all topped off with grease and sugar! (science fun fact: grease and sugar are also known as “delicious.”)

by the way, this is based on the “old” food pyramid. why? because the new one is badly designed and i hate it. clicky.

video: usability satire

August 20th, 2007 by moxie

natalie zee drieu’s digital style blog coquette featured an amazing rant about the bad design featured on marc jacob’s new perfume web site.

predictably, this prompted the obligitory and inane “works fine in windows” comment.

genius. as we all know, every single person on the internet uses a windows machine, and microsoft products are the simplest, best designed, easiest to use goods on the market.

…….yeah.

anyway, today i found this video, and it made me happy.
